The Bells of The Angelus sells over 11,000 copies

August 31, 2009

Palestrina BellsSales of LCS Hi-Res’s producer, Jonathan Wearn’s recording with The Palestrina Choir of Dublin under their legendary director Blanaid Murphy have now exceeded 11,000 copies.

Recorded in 2008 in the inspiring acoustic of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Dublin, it inspired the Irish Times to write:

It’s the ultimate in polyphony. Six voices move in perfect balance, the lines simple, distinct, and rhythmically supple, yet unfolding in crystal-line stream of sound, exquisite in its unity

To be made available soon from this website, the recording of the boys and gentlemen of St Mary’s combine with boy sopranos Diarmuid Sugrue and Louis Mahon, organists David Connolly and Gerard Gillen, harpist Denise Kelly, the Orchestra of St Cecilia and BlanaidDirector, Blanaid Murphy, to create a rich palette and an inspirational garland of Ireland’s best-loved and most-cherished hymn melodies.

Norman Lebrecht writes:

A lovely mix of boys’ voices arrives from Dublin with a repertoire that runs from the Vulgate to Benjamin Britten. If the Wexford Carol is one of your seasonal faves, you will never hear it more authentically sung and the young soloists here are unexpectedly characterful. The sound, in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, is of spine-tingling veracity. Not easy to find in shops, so buy from the website above.

A wonderful recording in a superb acoustic . . . I am one of those 11,000 who has a copy of this CD and hope that the Dublin Pro Cathedral Choir will choose to record more with this excellent producer.

Many thanks!
